In our relentless pursuit of justice, accountability, and absolute child safeguarding, our leadership team recently undertook a strategic facility tour and partnership discussion at the ultra-modern Center for DNA Forensics and Crime Investigation (CeDFoCI) located at Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Ugwuomu-Nike, Enugu.
A New Era for Evidence-Based Justice
The establishment of CeDFoCI—a pioneering, university-led forensic facility in Nigeria—marks a monumental paradigm shift in how criminal investigations are handled in our society.For too long, survivors of rape, sexual exploitation, and gender-based violence have faced immense hurdles in securing justice due to gaps in evidence gathering, reliance on speculation, or the delays associated with sending samples abroad.
During our visit, our team inspected the state-of-the-art laboratories and met with key institutional stakeholders to explore collaborative frameworks. This partnership is designed to leverage advanced DNA profiling and molecular technology to ensure that:
- Perpetrators Can No Longer Hide: Irrefutable biological evidence from crime scenes is processed locally with speed and precision, closing loopholes that allow offenders to escape justice.
- Survivors Receive Credible, Defensible Support: Medical and legal evidence backing cases of child abuse and sexual exploitation is airtight, giving courts the empirical backing needed for swift convictions.
- Deterrence is Strengthened: By ensuring that every sexual crime leaves a traceable, scientifically verifiable mark, we build a formidable wall of deterrence across our communities.
